Mid Term Reflection

For the portfolio, we needed to create the website, and in the process of making it, I showed it to some of my friends from high school for their opinions. I was surprised that they, thought the website itself was good, but two that they were impressed by my writing. Hearing that was refreshing because I could see an improvement in my writing from 6th grade through 10th, but did not see this same growth for my Sophomore year, or during the time I spent writing college essays. Using the different aspects of writing as a “mini prompt” helped my writing flow better. Though in senior year we were advised to take advantage of literary devices, connecting three different instances of imagery in a novel, for example, could feel forced. Now having different terms to describe the same scene helps my writing to flow, by guiding what both I and the reader will focus on.

In terms of the terms I feel benefited my writing the most, they would include, audience, purpose, and stance. I feel as though these help shape the way I would write something. Being someone who likes planning before they write, knowing the audience and purpose specifically is a huge help. This then affects my stance since I now know the approach I am going to take. Overall, I feel as though this semester has made me a more efficient writer and I hope in coming years I am able to experience the same amount of improvement.
